Who we are
CoTerran, ABN 93 386 880 656, is based in Australia. CoTerran
handles personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect from you
Visiting: standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested), used for security and fault-finding, plus your cookie choice.
Subscribing or creating an account: your email address, any name you give us, your preferences, the policy version you agreed to at signup, and what you submit through the platform.
Contacting us: whatever you choose to send.
Cookies and analytics
We measure readership with cookieless, first-party analytics. page counts are collected on our own server and processed in aggregate by Tinybird (EU). A short notice explains this on your first visit, and the Cookie settings link in the footer reshows it.
| Name | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
ct-consent |
remembers you've seen the cookie notice | 6 months |
ghost-members-ssr (+.sig) |
keeps members signed in | session |
__stripe_mid / __stripe_sid |
payment fraud prevention, set by Stripe | 1 year / 30 min |
theme (browser storage) |
dark/light mode — stays on your device | until cleared |
ct-anon-ref (browser storage) |
pseudonymous id for your newsletter consent record | until cleared |
When you agree to this policy at newsletter signup, we keep a server-side record of that agreement (when, which policy version, and the pseudonymous id) as our record that we asked.
How we use and store it
To run and secure the sites, and respond to your queries or subscription.
Responses you submit through the platform (forecasts, survey answers, suggested questions) are also used to support the analysis in our products, published in aggregate and never attributed to you individually. We don't sell personal information or use it for anyone else's marketing.
Data lives on our own infrastructure: the website and newsletter run on Ghost on our servers, and hosting and databases for Nexus are on DigitalOcean's Australia based servers.
Some processing happens outside Australia. Email is delivered by Mailgun (EU), readership aggregates are processed by Tinybird (EU), and payments are handled by Stripe (US).
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. We keep subscription data until you unsubscribe, and account data for the life of the account.
Your choices
You may unsubscribe from emails, and close your account, at any time. You may also ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it: privacy@coterran.co.
Further information on your rights can be found through the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
The version and date are at the top. We aim to flag notable changes on the site, and to subscribers by email, before they apply.
